Black Grouse – watercolour painting

Black Grouse foraging on Alston Moor, Cumbria. These beautiful birds were a common sight in the Pennines until the population crashed in the 1990’s. Numbers now seem to be recovering, and I hope to seeing them lekking in spring, with a view to more paintings. I love the plumage which gives a perferct excuse to use some of my favourite watercolour pigments.
