Recent Exhibition – Field and Fell at Trevelyan College, Durham University

I’m delighted to be returning to Trevelyan, my old Durham University college, with a new selection of watercolour paintings.

Field and Fell portrays an artistic journey across Britain, the result of time spent living in the Welsh Marches, Cumbria and Durham. I began the journey on the rugged Welsh coast, visited farmyards in Herefordshire, crossed the roof of England and met the North Sea on the smooth sands of Holy Island. This selection of work showcases some of the heritage breeds of animal I encountered and the magical landscapes they inhabit.

The landscapes are brought to life by dramatic skies and the play of sunlight, be it strong spring and summer top light, or the subtle shimmer of a frosty winter morning. The animal portraits show the character of the subject: the quiet assurance of a Herdwick, intense energy of a red squirrel or star quality of a real-life Miss Piggy!

Entry is free, to the exhibition in Trevelyan College, Durham University, Elvet Hill Road, Durham DH1 3LN. It is open to the public from 10am to 6pm from Monday 6th May to Friday 7th June 2019
