I saw these beautiful horses at the Brecon County Show and just had to have a go at painting them. The Welsh Cob is a very strong and versatile British native breed of pony, and full of character. The amazing dappled effect and high shine of the mare’s coat was a really tricky combination to achieve. This is the third attempt! I used a restricted palette of French Ultramarine, Burnt Umber and Opera Rose, with a little Quinacridone Deep Gold for the foal.
